Wizkid’s ‘Sounds From the Other Side’ surpasses 200,000 sales in U.S.

Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has achieved another major milestone as his 2017 project, Sounds From the Other Side, officially surpasses 200,000 units sold in the United States.

The feat marks a significant moment in the singer’s career, reaffirming both the enduring popularity of the album and his role as one of Africa’s foremost musical exports.

Released through RCA Records and Sony Music, Sounds From the Other Side was a defining moment for Wizkid. It served as his international debut and a bold attempt to merge Afrobeats with dancehall, R&B, reggae, and Caribbean sounds. The genre-blending project featured hit singles like Come Closer with Drake, Daddy Yo, and Naughty Ride featuring Major Lazer, each playing a pivotal role in introducing Afrobeats to a global mainstream audience.

At a time when African pop music was still on the cusp of international breakthrough, the album helped lay the groundwork for the global rise of Afrobeats. Its influence can be felt in the success of artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, and Wizkid himself, whose later projects, including Made in Lagos and More Love, Less Ego, would continue to push boundaries.

Nearly eight years after its release, Sounds From the Other Side is still celebrated as a visionary body of work that championed African rhythms on a world stage. This latest sales milestone solidifies Wizkid’s lasting impact as one of the most influential and forward-thinking artists of his generation.
